Happy Holidays!

by Megan Kurashige

We are taking a break from rehearsals for the holidays. We’ll be back in the studio in January, hopefully bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and bursting at the seams with new ideas.

We have some very exciting news about Project #1. We hope to tell you about it soon. It’s pretty grand.

In the meantime, we wanted to give you a tiny peek at some of the work we’ve been doing. This is the beginning of a duet that we’re working on with Josi and Kelvin. They are, quite simply, beautiful.

Sarah is a gorgeous, fierce mover with a sharp edge of bluntness that brings your eye to attention without demanding it. We had a conversation, several months ago, about how she remembers singing a song about “little Indians” as a kid and having a dance to go with it. It made us think about the Indians in Peter Pan and sent us in search of things like this.

There’s something striking and essential about dance movement that is direct. It’s somehow utilitarian in the middle of a sequence of motions that are hardly practical for any purpose except the way it rearranges the contents of your head.
